Perhaps that says something about the people in office, but it also says a lot about the nature of this job. Some see it as designed to be a service to the nation and the people you represent, but I’m not sure there are many examples of that mentality coming from elected officials even in the past. Either to keep their jobs for the money and influence it brings or to try to stay in office affect idealistic change, you run into the problem of privately funded campaigning.

When the President of Sierra Club spoke with a number of Republicans he was told (off the record) that most of them realize that climate control is a major problem, but they refuse to take a public stand on it — presumably because their jobs depend on mouthing the script Big Oil has written for them. Their jobs are at stake and that’s what they really care about.

When I originally commented I seem to have clicked on the
-Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and from
now on each time a comment is added I receive 4 emails with the exact same comment.

There has to be a way you are able to remove me from that service?

I lived in Rhode Island for a couple of years as well. I taught at the University in Kingston. (Isn’t that a photo of The Breakers? Hardly Woonscoket!) Their economy has always been on the margin. The soil is terrible for farming and there is very little industry — other than tourism, if that counts. But this is truly sad.

The sad part is the Romney’s and Ryan’s of the world being so out of touch with half their neighbors and how their lives have become so desperate. The hypocritical side is these guys pious claims to be such devout christians. They have hearts of stone to want to cut aid even further to benefit themselves and their wealthy friends. Have they no shame?

True. I don’t think mentioning party affiliation itself was wrong, but leading with it in the titles of articles and using it in your angle when the basis of their criticism didn’t come from their partisanship is bad journalism.

The terms “Republican” and “Democrat” have become emotionally charged and tend to slant any article in which they appear. They are not quite as charged as “conservative” and “liberal,” however.
